Japan now has an airport with Pokémon in its name.

Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport opened on July 7, 2026, on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture.

It is described as the world’s first airport to carry the Pokémon name, and the terminal is filled with Pokémon-themed displays, including a giant Pikachu flying on an airplane.

But where exactly is the Pokémon Airport in Japan?

It is not in Tokyo, Osaka or one of Japan’s major international gateway cities. The airport is located on the Noto Peninsula, north of Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan side of central Honshu.

Where is the Pokémon Airport in Japan?

Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport is located in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, on the Noto Peninsula.

The airport was previously known simply as Noto Satoyama Airport. From July 7, 2026, it began using the name “Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport” as part of a limited-time project scheduled to continue through September 30, 2029.

The airport code is NTQ.

For overseas visitors unfamiliar with Ishikawa Prefecture, the map below shows the airport’s position within Japan.

The airport is on the Sea of Japan side of Honshu. Tokyo lies to the southeast, while Osaka is farther southwest.

This wider view is useful because the Pokémon Airport is some distance from the major international gateways most overseas travelers use when entering Japan.

Where is the Pokémon Airport on the Noto Peninsula?

Zooming in, the airport sits in the northern part of the Noto Peninsula.

Wajima is northwest of the airport, while Suzu is farther to the northeast. The airport therefore provides an air gateway to the northern Noto region rather than to central Kanazawa.

Where is the Pokémon Airport in relation to Kanazawa?

Kanazawa is the best-known city in Ishikawa Prefecture and is likely to be a more familiar reference point for international visitors.

However, the Pokémon Airport is not in Kanazawa.

It lies considerably farther north, on the Noto Peninsula.

The map makes the geography particularly clear: Kanazawa is near the base of the peninsula, while the airport is much farther north.

According to Kanazawa’s official tourism information, the express bus journey between Noto Satoyama Airport and Kanazawa Station takes approximately two hours.

Can you fly directly to the Pokémon Airport from Tokyo?

Yes.

Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport has direct domestic flights to and from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND).

For the current schedule from March 29 through October 24, 2026, there are two round trips each day.

• Haneda 8:55 → Noto 9:50
• Haneda 15:30 → Noto 16:30
• Noto 10:30 → Haneda 11:35
• Noto 17:10 → Haneda 18:20

The flight from Haneda takes roughly one hour.

For many overseas Pokémon fans, this makes Tokyo the simplest air connection: arrive in Japan through Tokyo and then take a domestic flight from Haneda to Noto.

Flight schedules can change, so travelers should check the latest timetable before planning a visit.

Can you fly directly to the Pokémon Airport from overseas?

The regular scheduled service at Noto Satoyama Airport is the domestic route to Tokyo Haneda.

International visitors should therefore plan to enter Japan through a major international airport and connect to Noto via domestic transportation.

Travelers already visiting Kanazawa can also approach the airport overland, rather than returning to Tokyo to fly.

What does the Pokémon Airport look like from above?

The airport itself is surrounded by the mountainous landscape of the Noto Peninsula.

Unlike Japan’s major urban airports, Noto Satoyama Airport sits in a relatively rural setting. The Pokémon Airport attracted crowds from opening day

The airport quickly became a destination in its own right.

On opening day, July 7, 2026, local newspaper Hokkoku Shimbun reported that more than 100 people were already waiting outside the terminal before it opened.

The interest did not disappear after opening day.

A later visitor posted a photo showing a sign indicating a 30-minute wait for the Pokémon merchandise area. This is only one visitor’s experience and should not be treated as a normal waiting time, but it shows how busy the shop can become at popular times.
